Helen Marshall has been announced as Changing Faces new Chair, replacing outgoing Chair David Clayton who has held the position since 2015.
Helen is Chief Executive of Brook, the sexual health and wellbeing charity. She has more than 35 years’ experience working at senior level in the private and charitable sectors, the last 15 years as Chief Executive. Helen specialises in strategic development, social and economic regeneration, and business growth through innovation. Helen is passionate about social justice and improving outcomes for vulnerable communities.
She said, “Around 20% of the UK population have a visible difference and, of those, nearly half have experienced inappropriate or unwelcome attention because of their visible difference. Changing Faces, through its services as well as eye-catching campaigns that challenge intolerance and stigma, is playing a vital role in changing attitudes. I am truly excited to take on the role of Chair, working closely with the charity’s campaigners, staff, donors and the wider visible difference community to achieve ever greater impact. Having seen how valuable the charity has been in supporting people with a visible difference, I am really looking forward to joining the team.”
Heather Blake, Chief Executive of Changing Faces said, “I am enormously grateful to David for his leadership of Changing Faces over the last nine years, which has included some very challenging times for our sector. He has been a huge support to the Board and the whole of the Changing Faces team. We are fortunate that he has been able to pass on the reins to Helen and I am thrilled that Helen will be our new Chair. Her passion for the cause, extensive experience and leadership abilities will be of great importance as we continue to work on behalf of everyone with a visible difference in the UK.”
David Clayton said, “I have hugely enjoyed my time as Chair of Changing Faces. The visible difference community are a joy to work with and Changing Faces has done so much to tell their story to the world and call for greater understanding. It’s an exciting time for Changing Faces as we remain relentless in campaigning for and supporting people with a visible difference – and I know that Helen’s strategic knowledge and leadership acumen will play a pivotal role in that journey.”
