“I wanted to do something as a thank you for giving me such a fulfilling experience as a campaigner.
“For the last two years I have been campaigning with Changing Faces and October will be my last month as part of the programme, so I thought I should mark the occasion by doing something special. Campaigning has been a fantastic experience. I have met a lot of amazing people, some of whom have become great friends. To be able to tell my story, spread positivity around visible difference and speak with others within the community has been brilliant. I’ve loved having people to exchange ideas, concerns, and personal wins with!
“I’ve been lucky enough to use a variety of different platforms to campaign for the charity. Something that I was really happy to do was work with my employer, NHS Lanarkshire, during the last two Face Equality Weeks to spread awareness of Changing Faces and the great work that they do. I was also surprised to see a tweet I posted around Face Equality Week go somewhat viral and I hope that this made more people aware of Changing Faces and the issues people with a visible difference can have.
“My hope for the future for people with visible differences is that we are treated with dignity and respect. Difference should be celebrated, and that starts with better education. Children from a young age should be taught that looking different is a normal part of life, and that everyone deserves to be treated kindly. I want to be a positive role model to follow for the next generation, so I will keep raising awareness for visible differences and certainly won’t be a stranger to Changing Faces.”
We wish Peter the best of luck for his 70-mile walking challenge. As a campaigner, he has already made a huge impact, and this is the icing on the cake!
